other big stories we've got going on today, one of them being casey anthony will walk out of jail a free woman in six days. now, you hear that, and think back to 48 hours ago. it was at this time tuesday that casey anthony was facing the possibility of life in prison, maybe even facing the death penalty. what a difference 48 hours makes, because today she is counting the days until she walks out of the jail a free woman. she is counting down to six. you know by now, casey anthony was acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter caylee, but convicted on four counts of lying to investigators. just before sentencing, the deceives tried and failed to reduce down to one. here are the four counts. lying about working at university studios, liking about caylee being with a nanny, the fick tick zanny you heard solve about. and lying about speaking to caylee on the phone. this morning, the judge melvin perry gave her the maximum to each of those counts. >> i will sentence you to one year in the orange county jail, xwokting a $1,000 fine on each count all four counts to run consecutive to each o

a big deal. so what is a big deal? white house officials tell me anything over $2 trillion, but he is pushing for more in the area of cuts that would equal $4 trillion over the next 10 to 12 years. now, this all comes against the backdrop of a report today in the "washington post" saying thatm president obama is putting social security on the table along with medicare and medicaid and when we asked the white house about this, they said, look, this is not news. the president has always supported the idea of small cuts in those entitlement programs to make them more effective as long as the cuts didn't impact beneficiaries and having said that some folks on the hill say there are some scenarios which would see a major overhaul of the entitlement programs, but the white house says they would not want to see anything to overhaul the main programs. but one of the sticking points here, thomas, is taxes. democrats want to see a rollback in tax credits for the wealthy americans and in big corporations, and the republicans have said no way, we don't support anything that looks like a tax in

our fiscal house in order, they say, and they want big spending cuts in exchange for raising the debt ceiling. i will say, though, house republican leaders, they seem to at least be publicly more open to the idea. john boehner, the house speaker, even saying yesterday that he thinks mitch mcconnell has done very good work. we've also heard from some democrats, suzanne, that they seem to be open to the idea as well. one important point to make. while this doesn't require spending cuts, this mcconnell plan does have a catch. it would force very politically tough votes ahead of the 2012 election that republicans opposed to the debt ceiling could be on the record opposing, and also it's designed to then put the full responsibility of raising this debt ceiling of this new debt right in the lap of the president. there is some planning there. >> kate, how much do you understand what's going on here? obviously you've got the president, you have democrats, you have republicans, but republicans are even divided amongst themselves in this debate and it seems like there is a rift now between john

, but never quite so close to default. since we've been accumulating a big national debt, congress has raised the debt ceiling just 78 times. since 1960 alone. since the nation's debt reached the $1 trillion mark in the early 1980s, look at how government borrowing has skyrocketed. climbing really at an ex exponential rate. how is $14 trillion in relation to how big the economy is. it's about 95% of the size of the whole economy. we're fast approaching rates not seen since way back in world war ii and the great depression. when the size of the debt limit and the national debt was actually bigger than our gdp. this is what economists call a debt crisis. america runs by borrowing money. right now, 38 cents is borrowed money. if the debt kreeling is not raised in time, the u.s. could default on some of the payments. that's the last thing we need, recovering from a recession. >> fomdominique strauss-kahn ma face new sexual assault charges even though the case in new york is falling apart.
